Diggers today moved onto Bilston's Wilkinson Primary School to demolish its charred remains after it was destroyed in an arson attack.

The school's 335 pupils have been forced to stay at home since the blaze on Monday night but will return to school on November 1 in temporary classrooms being set up at nearby St Martin's Church in Slater Street.

The church will play host to the pupils for lessons until temporary classrooms are built on the school site. After that children will continue to use the church for assemblies and lunch until a new school can be built, which is expected to take a year.

Detectives investigating the blaze launched a fresh appeal for help today - asking anyone with information to call them on 0345 113 5000.

The school was set on fire less than three hours after buildings at the former Willingsworth High School, now the site of Tipton's RSA Academy, were destroyed by arsonists.
