A man with 15 cannabis plants and sophisticated growing equipment at his home was told to do 100 hours unpaid work and given a 12-month community order.
Christopher Perrins, of Delingpole Walk, Cradley Heath, admitted possessing cannabis, four wraps of cocaine and possessing a prohibited canister of CS spray .
He also tested positive for cocaine while in custody.
Kelly Hale, prosecuting, told Warley Magistrates Court he had said yield from the plants would last him a year.
He planned to take the cocaine at the weekend.
Perrins was arrested on May 14 after the 30-year-home was searched. Police found what was thought to be an £8,000 cannabis haul.
District Judge Michael Wheeler asked if charges should be cultivation, but Miss Hale said Perrins insisted it was for personal use.
Forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis and growing equipment was ordered. Perrins must pay prosecution costs of £85 as a collection order was made.
