A woman and her daughter suffered neck and back injuries when the car they were in struck a garden wall in wet conditions in Oldbury.

The blue Ford Focus veered from the road at the junction of Hagley Road West and Birch Lane near Quinton.

The female driver, aged in her 70s, was cut free from the vehicle by fire crews and she and her passenger, believed to be in her 40s were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, for treatment.

Meanwhile, in a separate crash a motorist escaped unhurt after the van he was driving veered from a road in West Bromwich and hit a tree.

As the drama unfolded on the A4031 Walsall Road at about 5.35 yesterday the man walked away from the wrecked van, and got onto a passing bus in an attempt leave the scene.

But firefighters flagged down the bus and escorted the man back to the vehicle. Police said the man was not arrested, but was due to be prosecuted for motoring offences.
