Chasetown's football ground is set for a £2million makeover after plans were approved by councillors.

Plans for a new stand and various other improvements have been given the green light by Lichfield District Council's planning committee.

Chief executive Mike Joiner estimates that work will begin on the ground before the season ends and added the next challenge is to raise the right level of funding.

He said: "It's been about two-and-a-half years since this we started on the road of trying to get development down here.

"It's been a bit turbulent from time to time but we've eventually got there."

The proposals for the Northern Premier League side's ground, in Church Street, include a 500-seat grandstand, a new club shop, changing rooms and offices.

Mr Joiner believes the whole community will benefit and the ground will be used for all manner of functions once complete.

Work on the new seating area will be so vast the improvements will have to be made when the season has finished.
