Traders today hit out at a delay in completing roadworks on a busy route in Kidderminster.

They are angry that works originally scheduled to last 10 days will continue for two weeks longer than expected.

Businesses in Comberton Hill say trade has been hit by the works which has left customers unable to park nearby.

Worcestershire County Council had said the work would be completed by September 5.

But work was still being carried out today with the scheme now set for completion at the end of this week. The council said the original completion date had been dependant on the weather.

Businesses say trade has been hit as the works, to replace kerbs and resurface pavements, caused the closure of parking spaces outside their shops.

Although most of these have now re-opened, traders say the extended works have increased disruption.

Many are also angry works have also taken place on Saturday - the busiest day of the week for their stores. It is the second time in three months the road has been closed for works. The road had to be closed in May to repair a dip in the road.

Carol Huntington, of Carol's Florist, said: "This has been disruptive. Work has also been carried out on Saturdays which is unbelievable because it is one of the busiest trading days.

"During the works one customer could not even find the shop because of the vans and lorries."

The scheme has also caused traffic tailbacks.
