Roadworks on one of the Black Country's busiest roads are coming to an end this weekend.

A stretch of Penn Road in Wolverhampton has been one-way since July as part of water mains replacement work being carried out by Severn Trent.

Today the company confirmed that the road will be back to normal on Monday after the six weeks of hold-ups for drivers.

Shopkeepers in Penn Road have complained of plummeting trade and takings while the one-way system has been in place between Coalway Road and Pennhouse Avenue, and residents have also complained that the scheme has inconvenienced them as they have often had to drive around the block to go a few hundred yards.

Davinia Baker, who works at the Beauty Within Salon in Penn Road, said: "We will definitely be pleased to see the roadworks go, as they make people late for appointments and put people off coming."

As part of the work in Penn Road, residents have also been left without water on occasions.

Severn Trent spokeswoman Grace Marren said: "The scheme has gone well."
