A pensioner died after falling from the kerb into the path of a car.

It is unclear if the man, aged 71, had been taken ill before he tumbled into the road in Dudley.

Police have confirmed the man, who has not been named, died on Wednesday.

They say he was walking along Dudley Wood Road, Netherton at around 2.45pm, when he apparently fell from the kerb and was hit by a Ford Fiesta.

A post mortem examination will be carried out. The road was closed from the junction with Saltwells Road and Pavillion Gardens for two and a half hours while police made enquiries.

The man was taken to Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, where he later died.

His family is being supported by a family liaison officer.

The publican at The Saltwells Inn, Saltwells Road, who did not want to be named, said he saw the police activity and his customers were talking about it that evening.
