Old bangers can be turned into cash for charity under a new scheme just launched in Wolverhampton.

Church Road Motors in Bradmore is taking part in the salvage scheme, and is encouraging people to donate money from their old cars to charities such as Compton Hospice.

The vehicle salvage and disposal firm will take in cars, make them safe and ensure they do not pollute the environment before turning them into scrap. Money, often hundreds of pounds, will then be given to a charity of the owner's choice.

Mary Bentley, a director with the Church Road Motors, said: "We deal with all the paperwork and provide certificates to ensure that number plates are not sold on.

"It directs money towards a charity in a way which people would perhaps not have thought of."
