Children have been getting creative during the summer holidays at a Tipton school's activity sessions.

Holidaying children at Alexandra High School, in Alexandra Road, made rag dolls and modelled recycling pieces of rubbish to create robots and spaceships they had designed.

The sessions used materials ranging from toilet rolls to plastic bottles, then the children painted the models themselves.

More than 120 children have visited the school each day for the sessions.

Hilary Brown, extended services manager at the school, said: "It's great to see the children so engaged with the activities that they are taking part in.

"It's so much better for them than sitting at home watching TV or playing on the street.

"The sessions show children a lot of things they would not normally do."

Classes also included circus skills, including balancing and juggling.

Junior chefs dabbled with spices as they created a homemade chilli con carne.

Budding performers were also invited to get involved in dance and drama routines, which they will showcase at a veterans' party next Wednesday at the school.
