A Black Country golf clubhouse has been destroyed by fire in an arson attack.

Firefighters were called from eight stations around the region to tackle the severe blaze at Dartmouth Golf Club in West Bromwich last night at 11.30pm.

The changing and locker rooms of the Vale Street clubhouse were completely destroyed in the fire and the rest of the building badly smoke-logged.

West Bromwich watch commander Phil Richards said: "The fire was started near a vent underneath the building. "

The golf club was empty.
