George and Joyce Dunn, of Harcourt Road, first caught each other's eye across a crowded pub floor when they were out for a drink with friends.
Their first date was at the Majestic picture house when former engineer George, now 84, put his arm around Joyce's shoulder.
Joyce, aged 82, said: "When we first met, I caught George's eye and he caught mine and we took it from there. On our first date, George put his arm around my shoulder.
"Some of my friends were usherettes and they told me I was too good for him, but I kept going on date after date with him and we got married."
They dated for 18 months before they were married at Old Hill Church on 30 July 1950.
The couple have four children, nine grandsons and two great-grandchildren, Sam Greenfield aged 2 and Rhys Greenfield, who is three months old.
Former Birmingham Sound Reproductions' worker Joyce said the secret to their many years of joy was to make up if they ever had an argument before bed.
