A murder investigation is under way after a 26-year-old man was knifed in the heart. He was in a car in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton.

He was taken by ambulance to New Cross Hospital, where he later died. A post mortem revealed he died from a single stab wound.

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested and released on police bail.

The man, believed to be of Iraqi origin, died on Saturday after being stabbed in Crosby Close the previous Sunday.

Police were there at about 3.30am, but the man had already left.

Police said that they had to withhold details of the death until today for "operational reasons". Officers were also awaiting post morterm results from yesterday.

Det Ch Insp Mark Payne, said: "We believe that the community could have vital information regarding this incident and if anybody in the community has information I would urge them to come forward.

"I would like to speak to anyone who was in or around the road on the evening of June 20 into the early hours of 21 June.

"We appreciate that community members may be concerned about getting in touch with the police but we would reassure them that their information will be treated in the strictest confidence."
