Kidderminster Carnival organisers have set a four-month deadline for new volunteers to come forward to save the event before it is totally lost.

They say the carnival will fold unless volunteers are found before a meeting is held to decide its future.

A new chairman, president and treasurer are needed to organise next year's event after the current members decided to step down after 20 years.

But no one came forward despite appeals leading up to this year's event, which attracted more than 10,000 visitors on June 19.

A final decision will be taken on the future of the carnival at a meeting on October 20.

And organisers said they will continue to appeal for people to come forward up until the day of the meeting.

Present chairman Colin Hill, who has served in the role for 19 years, said the organising committee had decided to hold fire on a decision until the meeting.

"We want to give people as much time as we can to come forward and save the carnival," he said.

"By waiting until the end of October we have nearly four months for new volunteers to come forward and take over.

"However if no-one has still come forward by then there will be no option."

People who would like to take part are asked to call Mr Hill on 01562 751634.
