Human remains have been unearthed from the garden of a Pelsall home after police officers and forensic specialists moved in.
Officers working alongside forensic archaeologists made the discovery of the remains of a foetus late yesterday, after a search of a semi-detached home in Huddocks View began in the morning.
The remains are now being sent for further tests but an excavation of the garden was continuing today.
A 29-year-old woman and 23-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the inquiry and bailed. It is believed the finding relates to an historic incident.
Detective chief inspector Sean Phillips said: "It is uncertain at this stage whether there are any other foetal remains to be unearthed, the search will continue until we are absolutely certain everything with significance to the inquiry has been recovered.
"The occupants of the property, a woman and her four children are being cared for by social services at a different address, to ensure they receive the appropriate care and support they need."
The investigation followed information given to the police about possible remains being buried in the garden of the home in a cul-de-sac near Pelsall Wood.
The house was sealed off by police yesterday morning as specialist teams arrived.
