They may all be dressed in traditional Victorian costumes but the new guides at the Black Country Living Museum have come from a variety of backgrounds, including teaching, journalism and the tax office.

However, their interest in local history has brought them together at the Tipton Road museum where they talk to visitors, show groups of school children the sights, and even enjoy the occasional portion of traditional fish and chips.

The group of five started working at the museum six weeks ago and say they are having to learn fast, as each building has its own unique history.

Dave Harrison, Jackie Cartwright, Sam Badger, Christopher Cooper and Terry Reece say they are happy to leave their busy careers behind as they enjoy a slightly slower pace of life at the museum.
