Walsall fallen soldier to be honoured at arboretum

A service for soldiers killed in action in the last year including a hero from Walsall was being held at the National Memorial Arboretum today.

A service for soldiers killed in action in the last year including a hero from Walsall was being held at the National Memorial Arboretum today.

Names of the 119 servicemen have been added to the Armed Forces Memorial in Alrewas, Staffordshire and a ceremony was taking place this afternoon.

Among those being paid tribute to was Walsall Corporal Jonathan Horne who died after an explosion in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on July 10.

The father-of-two's mother Jane Whitehouse and widow Rachel were due to attend the the dedication ceremony.

All 119 names were being read out during the service. Afterwards, led by HRH The Earl of Wessex on behalf of the Country, families were being invited to lay wreaths at the base of the memorial's freshly engraved walls.
