A middle-aged woman will appear in court today charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a pensioner was killed in a collision.

The 54-year-old woman was arrested after a black Ford Fiesta struck an 83-year-old man in Beacon Street in Lichfield, at lunchtime on Friday.

The pensioner is thought to have been walking along the street with his wife, also in her 80s, who received minor injuries in the incident.

The woman will appear before magistrates in Tamworth charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to provide a breath specimen, Staffordshire Police said.

She will remain in custody until then.

The pensioner, from the Walsall area, has yet to be formally identified.
