A collision between a car and a caravan shut two lanes of the M6 near Great Barr today.

The car lost control and left the carriageway after hitting the caravan at around 6am, which was left blocking the inside and middle lane of the northbound M6 between Junctions 7 for Great Barr and 8 for the M5 link.

The lanes reopened at around 6.30am after Highways Agency officers attended the scene.

Meanwhile, the motorway link road between the M5 and M6 was closed overnight for emergency repairs to the carriageway.

Officers from the Highways Agency noted excessive wear and tear on the road leading from the northbound M5 to the northbound M6 at Junction 8, and closed the route from 10pm last night. It reopened today at 6am.
