A madcap race around Lichfield Cathedral is offering runners the chance to join a select band.

The Lichfield Cathedral Dash on July 17, will see runners hurtle 430 metres around the cathedral in the 58 seconds it takes for the landmark's bell to chime for twelve midday.

Fewer than 50 people have managed to successfully complete the challenge since its debut in 1998.

This year's event will feature a "business baton" relay organised by Lichfield Chamber of Commerce.

It is intended as a chance for local firms to have their own race to raise money for local charities. Other races and events will include a 100m sprint for eight to 15-year-olds, a junior 400m dash, and a cycling sprint.

All proceeds go to Lichfield-based charity St Giles Hospice.
