A 61-year-old man died after his grey Subaru hit a stationary Suzuki Ignis before smashing into a tree in the grounds of Patshull Park Hotel Golf and Country Club, in Pattingham.

Police sealed off a section of the golf course following the crash at 5.40pm yesterday.

Fire crews from Tettenhall were called to the scene and the Air Ambulance was dispatched, but nothing could be done to save the man's life.

Police were today investigating.

Club general manager Stephen Kimbell today said members' sympathies were with the man's family and that the club was helping the police with its inquiries.

He said: "There were people on the course at the time including myself. People tried to help but he was in a bad way."

The crash happened just hours after a motorcyclist from Wolverhampton died following a collision with a car in Shifnal.
