A driver from Wolverhampton has died after a horror smash in South Staffordshire, police said today.

A driver from Wolverhampton has died after a horror smash in South Staffordshire, police said today.

The 26-year-old suffered multiple injuries after his car collided with an articulated lorry on the A449 Stourbridge Road, near Wombourne, and came to rest on its side.

He was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham following the crash, close to the Wodehouse Lane roundabout, at 1.20pm yesterday but later died.

The lorry driver was uninjured. The road was sealed off in both directions until about 5pm.

Staffordshire Police is appealing for information. Witnesses are asked to call 0300 123 4455.
