Former world darts champions Eric Bristow and Keith Deller took on the cream of Wolverhampton as they faced 14 local players in a Legends Challenge.

Five time world title holder Bristow and one-time king Deller were at Rileys Bar on Broad Street, Wolverhampton last night especially for the 16-man one night tournament, and took to the oche with their eyes on the £1,000 pot.

The two once famously met in the 1983 world championship final, which Deller took after an epic encounter with a stunning 138 checkout to win by six sets to five.

But Bristow was dumped out in the first round by Wednesfield teenager Ash Khayat, an 18-year-old student from Cannock Road.

Deller went all the way to win outright on the night beating former pro Darrell Thorpe, a 44-year-old contracts manager from Bennett Street, Bilston, in the final.

He said: "I loved it, me and Eric have been really challenged by the darts players of Wolverhampton.

"Some of the lads here have played come cracking darts, so I had to up the ante."

Bristow added: "There were some proper players in there on the night and it's a great place to play your darts."

Referee and host for the evening was the legendary Ross Bray, 'the Voice' also known for his television work on the Real McCoy crisps and Feasters microwave food commercials.

He added: "As always, the boys took it seriously and it was a good night of darts all round."
