This striking image shows ambitious plans for the transformation of Darlaston.

A £35 million project could see Bentley Road South and Bentley Mill Way, the home of Showcase Cinema, revolutionised with upgraded roads, bridges and junction improvements. And the picture, unveiled by consultants on behalf of Walsall Council, reveals the dramatic changes proposed for the major Black Country route.

Looking north along Bentley Mill Way, the image shows resurfaced roads and a revamped James Bridge Aqueduct.

Cycle lanes would also be created through the scheme.

The overhaul is dependent on a £35 million government grant, which Walsall Council has applied to the Department of Transport for.

Chairman of Walsall Regeneration Company, Brian Lowe, said: "There is no doubt Darlaston has huge potential and a number of partners are working together to help realise the long term vision for its regeneration."

A decision from the Department for Transport is not expected until next year.
