They are loved the world over and have been read by generations - now a history of Ladybird books is set to evoke those childhood days.

Visitors to the Museum of Cannock Chase can wallow in the nostalgia of the free Ladybird Make and Do Exhibition at the venue in Hednesford until July 25.

The exhibition draws on material from the Ladybird archive and includes 24 pieces of original artwork.

The display also features several first editions including the first Ladybird book from 1915.

There are also examples of the made items from Things to Make, a reading corner and the opportunity for visitors of all ages to make or complete items from the books in a special activity area.

Alisa Smith, Cannock Chase Council's museum services officer, said: "Ladybird books bring back the cosy and colourful days of childhood. The exhibition is a really magical way to rediscover just how great these books were - and still are."

The museum is open daily from 11am to 5pm.
