A talented young dancer and actress from Wolverhampton is hoping to pirouette her way to success after winning a place at a national summer school for budding performers.

A talented young dancer and actress from Wolverhampton is hoping to pirouette her way to success after winning a place at a national summer school for budding performers.

Katie Griffiths, aged 16, beat off thousands of other hopefuls to win a place at a summer school being run by the National Youth Theatre.

The Coppice Performing Arts pupil from Wednesfield is one of 600 talented youngsters chosen out of 4,300 people who auditioned for a place.

She impressed judges during her audition with a Shakespeare monologue and will travel to London for the summer school in August.Following 12 days of drama and dance workshops the event will finish with a performance at a London theatre.

Steve Clifton, assistant headteacher at Coppice, said: "Katie is a keen performer in drama, an excellent dancer, and a part of all of our school productions.

"We are really proud of her achievements and really hope she enjoys the summer school with the National Youth Theatre."
