A pedestrian was taken to hospital after a rush-hour crash on Wolverhampton's Ring Road which led to long delays for motorists.
Paramedics were called to the scene at the Ring Road St Johns shortly before 5.30 last night to reports that a man, thought to be in his 50s, had been hit by a vehicle. He was taken to New Cross Hospital for what is believed to be a head injury. Police sealed off the Ring Road between St Johns Retail Park down to the Penn Island while investigations were carried out.
The crash led to hold ups for motorists making their way home and was near to work which is currently ongoing to widen the Penn Road Island.
Wolverhampton office worker Joan Petford was trying to make her way home to Stourbridge just after the crash.
She said: "I was trying to get onto the A449 to get home but when I got to Ring Road St Georges there was a lot of traffic and there were police cars parked across the two outside lanes. Traffic was being filtered into one inside lane and diverted.
"It was the latest in a series of holdups for motorists who travel between Wolverhampton and Kidderminster because there have recently been long delays caused by roadworks on the A449."
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance attended the crash.
The stretch of the ring road where the incident happened had been shut to motorists for several nights over the last week as part of the work on the Penn island.
