A smoking shelter outside a Kidderminster pub has been destroyed when flames tore through the structure today.

Fire crews were called to the Wrens Nest pub, in Stourbridge Road, at 12.30am.

They arrived to find the shelter engulfed by flames and three crews were needed to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters were at the scene for two hours dealing with the blaze and making sure it had not spread to other areas.

The pub building was not affected by the fire.

Police are now investigating the cause of the blaze.

Crews today said it was not yet known if the fire had been started deliberately or by a discarded cigarette.

Watch commander Simon Cusack, of Kidderminster fire station, said it had been a severe fire.
