The stretch of the Lichfield A38 from Weeford to Bassetts Pole has been plagued by collisions with 38 injury accidents recorded in the last three years. Three accidents were fatal and a further three led to serious injuries.
Highways inspectors have logged the average speed of all motorists using the dual carriageway as 80mph.
Major work to improve the road's safety and cut speeding will begin on Sunday, April 25, and is expected to take six months to complete.
A raft of safety measures will be put in place, including permanent average speed check cameras.
The carriageway will also be resurfaced, new fencing installed, and trees will be cut back to increase visibility. The road's speed limit will be cut from 70mph to 60mph when work is completed.
