Marvellous magnolias are starting to bloom across the West Midlands as spring begins to blossom - and we want to see pictures of your flowering trees.

In recent days the fragrant flowers have begun to emerge in gardens, streets and popular attractions across the region in a sure sign the season is changing at last after the coldest winter on record for a number of years.

Anne and Robin Wainwright are enjoying a white flowering Magnolia Stellata tree in the garden of their Burntwood home. The couple, who live in Ogley Hay Road, were given the tree by friends and say they have had it for around a decade.

Anne, who is chairwoman of the Burntwood Gardeners Guild said: "It began flowering last week but doesn't last that long, maybe two or three weeks. A lot of magnolias are pink but this is mostly white with a streak of pink on the back." She added: "I think people like them because they have a lot of colour and you know when your magnolia is out it is spring."

There are a couple of magnolias on Coalway Avenue in Penn, Wolverhampton, which are beginning to bloom.

Resident Sheena Mudie, 55, of Coalway Avenue, said: "For me magnolias blooming is one of the signs the weather is getting warmer. They are beautiful flowering trees which bring colour to the street but for me they are not pretty trees once they lose their blooms."
