The University of Wolverhampton's business school will be relocated from campuses in Compton and Telford to the city centre.
The University of Wolverhampton's business school will be relocated from campuses in Compton and Telford to the city centre.
Bosses are looking to introduce the change by September this year, it was revealed today. It is not yet been confirmed how many students will be affected as a result. The move means there will be a learning centre, comprising a library with IT suites and group study areas, as well as halls of residence at the Compton campus on Compton Road West.
Professor Ian Oakes, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise, today confirmed the move had been given the go ahead.
He said: "The proposal to relocate the business school to the city campus was approved by the board of governors. Students and staff will make use of existing accommodation on the city campus."
University chiefs say they have been consulting on the plans for the last six months and there are no plans to close either the Compton or Telford campuses.
The move - said to be down to issues with space - comes months after the university launched a voluntary redundancy scheme to try and save £8 million.
The scheme ran until December last year and the total number of voluntary redundancy applications accepted was 156.
The business school was founded in 1931 and has a faculty of more than 60 teaching staff.
The school welcomes more than 400 international students from more than 20 countries worldwide every year.
The business school delivers programmes around the world and staff say it attracts students because of its state-of-the-art technological support.
The school also offers dedicated placements for students and has an employability officer to help students with their CVs and even to find a year long work placement at home or abroad.
In total the university has 10 schools and employs 2,740 staff and has 23,000 students.
As well as the bases in the city centre, Compton Park and Telford the university also has a campus in Walsall and a health and wellbeing centre in Burton-Upon-Trent.
