A ten-month old baby was rescued after he got trapped in a car parked outside a Wolverhampton day nursery.

The child's mother had just put him in the VW Golf, after having a guided tour of the premises, when the drama started yesterday afternoon.

The unnamed woman accidentally left the car key on the front passenger seat of the vehicle and closed the door after securing her son in a baby seat.

The car automatically locked leaving her stuck outside with the crying child trapped in the parked car at the Ashton Court Day Nursery in Compton Road, Wolverhampton at around 3pm.

A crew from the city's Merridale Street fire station were called and smashed a side window on the driver's side to get in and free the boy.
