A young butcher from South Staffordshire is proving she can cut it with them best of them after striking gold at a national competition.

Teenager Katie Lawson scooped a gold award at the National Supreme Product Championship's at Birmingham's NEC, and picked up three gold awards at the BPEX Roadshow held at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on March 10.

The 17-year-old, who works for her parents at Bromley Butchers, in Wombourne, was the only girl in the two contests.

She said: "These were the first competitions I have ever entered so I was really chuffed to win gold.

"They were male dominated competitions but the judges said they were really impressed by my pork sausages."

Katie has been helping her parents Clive and Jane at their shop in Common Road for the past 12 months. She picked up gold at the NEC for her breakfast sausage, and gold at the Reebok Stadium for her traditional pork, classic and breakfast offerings.

She added: "I try to invent new flavours as often as I can."
