A woman was airlifted to hospital after the motorcycle she was riding careered into a concrete bollard.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the area outside the Shire Oak pub at the junction of Chester Road and Lichfield Road, Brownhills, at about 11.30am yesterday.

An ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were sent and the woman was said to be in "serious" condition.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Claire Thomas said: "Crews arrived to find a woman off her motorcycle after reportedly colliding with a bollard.

"The 44-year-old woman suffered a serious pelvic injury and was in a lot of pain. Crews immediately administered pain relief and immobilised her with a neck collar, spinal board and pelvic splint.

"The woman was then airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital, the region's specialist trauma centre, where medics were pre-alerted to the arrival of the woman who was in a serious condition."
