Pupils from Cooper and Jordan School were at The Croft in Aldridge where experts are on the lookout for artefacts from times gone by.

Walsall Council is working in partnership with Aldridge Rotary Club on future ideas to enhance The Croft, which is near to the village centre, including a possible heritage trail.

Previous finds in Walsall range from flint tools dating back to the Mesolithic period, around 10,000 years ago, to 20th century industrial structures.

And last summer The Staffordshire Hoard was discovered in a farmer's field near Brownhills. A public consultation day has been held giving people the opportunity to see the proposals and have their say.

Workshops will also be held with local schools and youth clubs over the next few weeks to gain wider community input.

Brian Wheat, Aldridge Rotary Club president, said: "The Croft is greatly valued by the Aldridge community and we are keen to make it a focal point for the village by creating a heritage trail."
