Arson closes care home

More than 25 pensioners had to be led to safety after arsonists smoke-logged their nursing home.

A stretch of canal embankment was set alight along Arnhem Way, Tipton, at 6.10pm yesterday.

The resulting smoke filled Ryland View Nursing Home, meaning 28 residents had to be evacuated into an adjoining building of the home.

Fire crews from Tipton and Bilston attended and left just before 7pm.
