Gunmen on an off-road bike threatened a security guard at a Tesco Express store in Wolverhampton before fleeing with around £36,000.

And in a second robbery, a guard had a cash bag stolen outside a branch of Lloyds TSB in Smethwick.

Three youths on a bright orange and black scrambler bike threatened the Securicor guard transferring money from a cash machine outside the Tesco Express Store, in Wednesfield, yesterday.

The youths, one of them brandishing a handgun, demanded the guard unload tens of thousands of pounds into a blue canvas bag during the terrifying hold-up at 11.30am.

The three men, two wearing blue helmets and one wearing a white helmet, then all jumped onto the off road bike and fled from the scene along Lichfield Road.

They were spotted heading along the canal towpath before doubling back towards Wednesfield town centre where they were last spotted in Lichwood Road. No shots were fired during the raid.

In the second robbery, a guard had his cash bag snatched outside Lloyds TSB at Cape Hill, Smethwick, at 2pm yesterday. It was not clear how much money was taken. Anyone with information should call police on 0845 113 5000.
