A pub kitchen worker threw a glass at a customer after overhearing derogatory remarks about a cheese cob he had prepared.

Christopher Bowen lost his temper after Lee Green criticised the food served up at the Swan Hotel in Tettenhall.

The 33-year-old father-of-four was sacked from his job following the altercation last September 23 and was given a suspended prison sentence at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.

Mr Howard Searle, prosecuting, said Bowen and his girlfriend had been in the pub's beer garden at around 11.30pm when the dispute broke out.

Both worked in the kitchen at the nearby Mitre Inn, where food for the Swan is prepared.

"Mr Green was making comments as to the quality of the cheese cobs being sold," said Mr Searle.

Bowen, of Hordern Road, Whitmore Reans, was given a nine-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 250 hours unpaid work.

Sentencing, Judge Helen Hughes told him: "You had clearly had too much to drink and it's clear you have a somewhat overinflated view of your role as a protector.

"You are an adult and a family man and you need to behave like one."
