A mechanic who punched a university student in the face so hard he broke his jaw in two places has been jailed for six months.
Victim Matthew Arblaster was a former partner of Lee Goode's girlfriend Leanne, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
Goode, aged 21, believed she had been treated badly when she was in the relationship with Mr Arblaster and he "effectively lost it", said Mr Colin McCarraher defending.
He said Goode, of Deakin Avenue, Brownhills, accepted no aggression had been shown by Mr Arblaster adding: "There is no cold, logical reason for what he did.
"But he genuinely believed she had not been treated well by Mr Arblaster and he is sick at heart for what he has done."
Mr Makhan Shoker prosecuting said Mr Arblaster had to undergo surgery to repair his damaged jaw and he had suffered considerable pain as a result of the one punch thrown by Goode.
He said Goode and his girlfriend had been drinking in the same pub as Mr Arblaster and, when he left, he followed him to a nearby Balti restaurant where, after calling him out of the premises, he punched him hard in the face.
Goode admitted causing grievous bodily harm.
