The pair were both flown to hospital with severe head injuries after separate accidents in Wolverhampton and Shifnal.
In another smash in Hawbush Road, Brierley Hill, a 17-year-old motorcyclist was thrown from his Suzuki 1400CC after colliding with a Ford Focus.
The 10-year-old from Wolverhampton was flown to Birmingham Children's Hospital last night after being struck by a red Audi outside his home in Bushbury.
The driver was questioned at the scene in Ruskin Road after the incident, which occurred just before 5.15pm, but was released pending further investigations.
David Hodges, West Midlands Police spokesman, today described the boy's condition as "critical but stable."
Neighbour Alan Rothan, aged 58, of nearby Fordhouses was visiting his brother-in-law on the street when he saw the aftermath of the smash.The hospital engineer said: "I don't know the kid personally but it's awful for the family."
In another crash, a driver was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital after his car ploughed into a tree in Haughton Lane in Shifnal, near Wolverhampton.
Two male passengers were also injured – one suffered a broken leg and suspected internal injuries while the other received facial cuts – during the crash at 4pm on Saturday which left the car on its roof.
Paramedics, police and air ambulance were all scrambled to the scene and the road was closed for nearly two hours following the incident.
The driver's condition was last night described by Inspector Gurjit Singh, of Shropshire Police, as "extremely critical".
The Brierley Hill accident at 2pm on Saturday saw a 17-year-old biker from Pensnett flown to Selly Oak Hospital.
The car driver, a grandmother in her 50s who asked not to be named, told how she was coming back from my daughter's house and was indicating right to turn on to my drive when the accident happened.
