Around £80,000 is set to be spent on stopping drivers speeding through a town in the Black Country.

The cash will be invested in traffic calming measures in Oldbury following concerns from worried residents about crashes.

The plan is now being considered by transport bosses at Sandwell Council but looks set to be given the nod.

If approved, speed humps, bollards and raised platforms will be installed in Albion Street, Salop Street, Junction Street, Temple Way, Peel Way, Cecil Drive and Lower City Road.

Oldbury councillor Susan Downing today welcomed the move, saying the streets were home to a lot of families with young children.

"This is a very good thing for Oldbury as we do get people speeding along these roads and through the estates."

The £80,000 will come from the Local Transport Plan allocation for local safety schemes.

Meanwhile, a £25,000 trial to reduce the speed limit outside schools at three peak times a day is to be launched. Over the next 12 months, the speed limit will drop to 20mph at 8am, 11.45am and 3pm at St Mary's Catholic Primary, Wednesbury in Hamstead Junior in Great Barr and Tividale Community Primary School.
