A pensioner who was knocked down by a car on a main road in Wolverhampton has died.

The 71-year-old Bilston woman was airlifted to hospital following a collision with a Ford Puma close to the Spread Eagle pub in Birmingham New Road, Lanesfield, at 11.20am yesterday.

She was taken to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, where she was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses are being asked to call police at Low Hill on 0845 113 5000.
