A syndicate from Kidderminster has scooped a Lotto jackpot of £4.8million.

The winners, who have opted to keep their identities secret, are believed to be from a pub in the Comberton area. It is thought the syndicate is made up of four members.

They celebrated their win at St John's Social Club in Crowther Street at the weekend.

A worker at the club today confirmed the bonanza but added the syndicate did not want any publicity.

The prize was won with numbers 8, 24, 27, 31, 34 and 36 on February 20.

A Camelot spokesman said he could not confirm whether a winning ticket had been purchased in the Wyre Forest area.

But residents, shoppers and traders said there was talk of a big lottery win by a syndicate in Kidderminster.

Builder Robbie Parker, aged 51, of Leswell Street, said: "I heard talk of a big win but I don't know who it is. A lot of people are talking about it.

"It's quite a nice amount to have won."

Shopkeepers in nearby Comberton Hill also said customers were aware of the win.

Lottery sellers in the town reported bumper trade for last month's Euro Millions draw when a jackpot of £113m was up for grabs.

Ash Sharma from Broadwaters Stores in The Parade, Stourbridge Road, Broadwaters, Kidderminster said there was a four-fold increase in lottery trade on an average week.

Couple Nigel Page, aged 43, and 41-year-old partner Justine Laycock from Cirencester in Wiltshire shared the nine-figure sum with a winner in Spain.

A van driver and estate agent, they celebrated their win by going for a breakfast of bacon butties at the cafe in their local Waitrose while they waited for the Camelot adviser to arrive.

Hopefuls across the Midlands were spending more than £100 on tickets as lottery fever hit the region.
