More than 200 people dressed as robots flocked to West Bromwich arts centre The Public for a world record attempt with a difference.

Those taking part had responded to pop artist James Johnson-Perkins' appeal for participants in his synchronised robotic dance attempt on Saturday.

Led by the artist from an elevated platform through a three-minute 'electro' track, those present were unsuccessful in their bid to beat the world record of 351.

Newcastle-based James told the Express & Star he would look to have another go at the record next year.

"It was great to see so many people get involved, of so many different ages," he said.

"We had sent leaflets around the area and contacted a lot of local schools. A lot of the costumes had been made during classes at The Public. Obviously it would have been nice to break the record, but the most important thing, I thought, was bringing so many people together," he added.
