A car was wrecked when it smashed into a lamp post and damaged a wall near a Black Country school.

The black BMW careered off Hagley Road and hit the post outside Pedmore C of E Primary School, Stourbridge.

Part of a wall by the side of the school building was damaged by the car during the crash on Saturday.

The airbags were set off by the impact of the crash which crumpled the bonnet, split the metal interior of the wheel and tore off the bumper and front light. The driver is believed to have escaped with minor injuries after the car careered onto the pavement.

Meanwhile, five people were taken to hospital after three cars were involved in a collision in Rugeley.

The crash happened on a bend on the A51 at Brereton Hill, near to Wishing Well Garage, at around 12.30pm on Saturday.

A Suzuki Vitara and Volvo suffered extensive damage and a Ford Mondeo minor damage.

A man travelling in one of the cars suffered multiple minor injuries and a reduced level of consciousness.

The man, believed to be in his early 30s, was treated at the scene and immobilised using a spinal board and neck collar and taken to Stafford Hospital.

In the second car, a man believed to be in his mid 30s suffered minor leg injuries. A woman also believed to be in her mid 30s, suffered back injuries. Both were taken to Stafford Hospital. Two girls also travelling in the car, believed to be 10 and seven-years-old suffered no significant injuries.

The occupants of the third car, a man and a woman believed to be in their 50s, were checked over at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.
