Power was lost to almost 2,500 homes due to an underground cable fault in Wolverhampton.

Police and a fire crew were called after sparks were spotted flying out of a sub-station in Mount Road, Tettenhall.

The drama, at around 8.30pm on Saturday, caused blackouts in Tettenhall and Perton. Crew commander Dean Marandolo, from Merridale Street fire station, said: "We were met by police and told that a member of the public had heard an explosion and seen sparks."
