Schools open for vital exams

Black Country and Birmingham secondary schools opened today to let students to sit vital exams.

Many were only open to pupils in Years 10, 11 and 12 so they could take tests or continue revision.

Dudley's Holly Hall School and The Dormston School, Sedgley, were only open to Years 10 and 11 pupils.

High Arcal School, Sedgley, was open to Years 9 to 11. Coseley School & Sports College, The Wordsley School and Thorns Community College were also open but started later than normal.

Gig Mill Primary School, Stourbridge; Old Park Special School, Dudley; Our Lady and St Kenelm RC, Halesowen, and St Chads, Sedgley closed. Dingle Primary School, Stourbridge, and Priory Primary, Dudley opened later.

In Birmingham, 35 schools closed and four in Sandwell closed or had alternative hours. Perryfields High, Oldbury, and Guns Village Primary, West Bromwich, opened from10am.

George Betts Primary, Smethwick, closed and George Salter Collegiate Academy, West Bromwich, was open to staff and sixth formers taking exams.

More than 10 Walsall schools closed and a number of secondaries were only open to teenagers sitting exams including Joseph Leckie Community Technology College, Sneyd Community, Frank F Harrison and Blue Coat C of E.

Willenhall Sports College was open to Key Stage 4 and 5 pupils with sixth formers starting at 9am and years 10 and 11 from 9.30a.m.

Primary schools Blue Coat Infant, Edgar Stammers, Harden, Lodge Farm JMI, North Walsall and Ryders Hayes were closed.

In Wolverhampton Oakmeadow Primary, Ryan Avenue; St Alban's CE Primary, St Alban's Close, both Ashmore Park; Trinity CE Primary, Longford Road; Park Village and New Park Special School, Whitmore Reans, closed. Most Wyre Forest schools were open today in time for older pupils to sit GCSE exams. Some pupils returned for the first time since before Christmas as last week's snow closed many schools on the day they were due back.

Upper Arley Primary School, near Bewdley, confirmed it was remaining closed today.

In South Staffordshire, Havergal Primary School, Shareshill, was closed today.

In Cannock Chase Hednesford Valley High School and Bridgtown Primary School, North Street, were closed. Norton Canes High School, Burntwood Road, and Kingsmead Technology College, Kings Avenue, Hednesford, were only open to pupils taking exams.
