A petrol thief paid a high price for driving off without paying for £83 worth of petrol – after a judge ordered him to hand over his new car.

District Judge Graham Wilkinson ruled the Corsa bought by Quayes Miahjee, aged 23, for £1,200 on December 18 should be sold or destroyed by police.

At Wolverhampton Magistrates Court yesterday he said: "You used the vehicle to commit crime so you lose it."

Miahjee, from Bellman Close, Darlaston, drove away without paying from the BP garage in Neachells Lane, Wednesfield, and BP at Willenhall Road, Wolverhampton over Christmas.

Jobless Miahjee admitted two offences of no payment and driving with no licence or insurance. Miahjee was banned from driving for 18 months, ordered to pay £483 in fines and costs and given a daily curfew for six weeks.
