A laser cutting firm has unveiled plans to extend its factory in the Black Country by more than 50 per cent - creating a dozen new jobs.

Midtherm Laser, based at Albion Works near the busy Cinder Bank island at Peartree Lane, Dudley, wants to expand and has submitted plans to Dudley Council.

Officers have recommended approval for the scheme when it goes before the authority's development control committee on January 11.

If approved Midtherm will expand its existing factory space by more than half, adding a 9,000 sq ft extension to the present 14,000 sq ft unit.

A report to the council's development control committee says the expansion will "allow for additional machinery to be brought in to increase productivity" and create 12 jobs.

Sixteen extra car and three lorry parking bays will be installed if the project gets the green light.

Netherton, Woodside and St Andrews ward member Councillor John Martin said the council had agreed to release land for the proposed extension to Midtherm following discussions with bosses.

Councillor Martin said he was "very supportive" of the expansion plans.
