Fast-acting paperboy George praised
A hero paperboy has received a commendation after saving the life of a pensioner by getting her to safety following a gas leak at her Midland home.

George Birch, aged 13, sprang into action after he noticed the woman acting strangely while on his Express & Star paper round in Barrett Close, Kidderminster.
She appeared disorientated and her speech was incoherent when he called at her home and after realising she could be overcome by fumes he immediately helped her out of the house to safety. The schoolboy of Browning Close, Kidderminster, then called the police, fire and ambulance services to get help.
Emergency services say his quick thinking saved the woman's life. The King Charles I School pupil has now been sent a letter of commendation from Worcestershire County Council. George also helped look after a woman who fell down and broke her arm until the ambulance arrived.
