Miracle baby's perfect gift
A miracle baby who was born more than three months premature and spent the first 19 months of her life in hospital is set to spend her first Christmas at home.
Demi-Leigh Dearn was born at 23 weeks in January 2008 weighing just 1lb 3oz. She spent her first Christmas and birthday in hospital, but after finally returning home in September is now looking forward to her first family Christmas at home.
Her mother Emma Williams, aged 22, of Pitfields Road, Oldbury, had a normal pregnancy and there were no fears that the baby would be premature. But on January 23 last year, her waters suddenly broke – 13 weeks early.
Demi-Leigh has endured a range of treatments and operations, but since her return home Emma, Demi-Leigh's full time carer, said she has been doing brilliantly.
She said today: "I never thought I would see this day. We were told to expect the worst and now we are having her first Christmas at home. She's my lttle miracle."
